Love local, love seafood
Here on Tarquin we love seafood, and we love to keep it local.
This makes Greenshell mussels, King salmon and wild surf clams the perfect match.
Sampling these delicious treats from the sea while cruising with Tarquin on the very waters in which they were grown is quite a special experience.
There are many other good reasons why we serve these products onboard Tarquin to our guests - the delicious flavours are only the beginning.
You’re doing your health a favour
There is much more to a New Zealand Greenshell mussel than its delicious taste and high quality: The myriad of exceptional health benefits that they bring truly make this a superfood.
Being a low-fat, high-protein product, Greenshell mussel lipids are very high in beneficial fatty acids including omega-3, omega-6 and a large number of essential minerals and antioxidants such as selenium, iodine and iron.
Marlborough’s King salmon is also renowned for its many health benefits and rich flavours. It is truly a superfood, being rich in Omega-3s, high-quality protein, vitamins and minerals.
Cloudy Bay Clams grow naturally in the Pacific Ocean, and come packed with naturally sourced goodness. They are the most pristine shellfish available in New Zealand and, as such, provide many natural health benefits.
Exquisite Marlborough flavours
Greenshell Mussels are as versatile as they are packed with flavour.
Even better, they are super easy to prepare. You can simply steam them onboard a boat as we often do here on Tarquin, to enjoy the purest, freshest flavours the magnificent Marlborough Sounds has to offer.
With their unique sweet and tender flavour, these mussels also pair wonderfully with a wide variety of seasonal ingredients and feature widely on the international cuisine stage.
For a classic French-inspired meal, New Zealand Greenshell Mussels can be steamed with just a touch of olive oil, lemon, onion and garlic. Mussels work just as well with Asian flavours including ginger and chilli, or perhaps try a tomato sauce or a drizzle of pesto.
Chefs worldwide celebrate Marlborough’s King salmon for its versatility and ability to be paired with a range of fresh seasonal ingredients.
Cloudy Bay Clams, which range in taste from mild and sweet to full and intense, are great eaten cooked or raw - whatever best retains their unique natural flavours, and suits your palate.
The Marlborough Sounds is home to a thriving King salmon industry. Born in crystal clear spring water and raised in pens submerged in natural seawater, King salmon, also called Chinook, are a native of the Northern Pacific Ocean and the only species of salmon farmed in New Zealand.
Cloudy Bay Clams grow naturally on Marlborough’s east coast, and are freshly harvested using sustainable methods.
Greenshell mussels have been ranked in the top two eco-friendly seafoods in the world. They are grown in a natural and sustainable manner, without the use of sprays, additives or chemicals, and using the latest technology to ensure minimum impact on the environment without compromising on quality and flavour.
